Festival of Colours Holi 2017 & holika dahanam @ medchal Iskcon temple


Holi is a traditional hindu festival celebrated with two main reasons one is with the beginning of spring season and second reason is celebrating the victory of good over evil.

This time we celebrated Holi with the Oral school of deaf and Dumb children.







Holi ???
As per legends , A Folklore tells that how the god vishnu saved his devotee prahalada from a pyre ,while prahalada's evil maternal aunt holika burned.

Holi is celebrated in playing with colours and by holika dahanam.

Holika Dahanam
Holika a temporary figure made by clothes is arranged and burned to celebrate the victory of good over evil the night before the holi festival called as holika dahanum.









Coloured Powders:
This is the practice during dwapara yuga of lord krishna regime ,celebrated by lord krishna and Radha.Radha's love signifies the comming of spring and all new colours it brings to nature.

Coloured powder means!!!
The coloured water was made of turmeric paste ,flower extracts used safely in joy of victory.But now-a-days synthetic versions are largely used.

The usual colours used are

Red - reflects love & fertility
Blue -colour of krishna
yellow- turmeric
green - symbolises spring & new beginings.

When holi is celebrated?
It is an ancient festival celebrated all over the world.This day people will spend the morning with throwing coloured powders and coloured waters on each other.
