Ugadi
It is the New year day for the Hindus of Andhra pradesh ,Karnataka,Telangana States in India and same was celebrated as Gudipadwa in Maharastra.Ugadi marks bidding farewell to the past and welcoming the promising future.
It falls on the 1st day of the chaitra month. On this day , people wake up early and start the day by drawing colourful rangolis and decorating Mango leaves and marygold flowers to doors, wearing new clothes, and after bathing sharing a special chutney (pachadi) combining all flavors like sweet ,sour, salty, bitter,as must expect all flavours of experiences in the comming new year.
Ugadi marks the start of the spring seasons when nature starts wearing a fresh look with new leaves ,flowers, fruits.During this time most plants come to life around this season and therefore there is a green ambience all around setting a wonderful phase.
ugadi thus sets the phase for a new begining in life and every thing around.
Preparation of Ugadi (pachhadi) Chutney with shad ruchulu (six flavours or tastes of life)
A special kind of juice is prepared by mixing neem flowers ( for bitter taste) ,raw mango pieces (sour taste) , sugarcane (for sweetness), tamarind water which gives immense health value if consummed on empty stomach after the puja performed.
Thats why on this day immediately after puja everyone should take the ugadi chutney on empty stomach.
Scientific reason behind it is ,consuming this chutney fights with all infections that may cause by monsoon change.
As a part of YFS this time we spent Ugadi with oral school for deaf and dumb children.
